“Ryeowook-ahh… Wait for me okay?” Yesung ran into the toilet.

“Okay.” He took Yesung’s books from him and watched the figure disappear behind the door.

“Hellooo there…” Ryeowook felt hot breath down his neck, and jumped in shock. He heard laughter behind him, and spun around. Kangin, Kibum and Kyuhyun stood towering over him, making him feel smaller. He wanted to dash to the toilet, but his feet were frozen. He immediately wished Yesung would suddenly appear by his side and protect him. He only felt safe when Yesung was around.

He heard about KKK. From Yesung, who had all the stories at the tip of his tongue.

“I’m Kangin.” The big, burly one in the middle smiled, showing his perfect set of shiny, white teeth. Suddenly Ryeowook was reminded of the wolf in Little Red Riding-hood, and didn’t know why.

“Kibum.” The one on Kangin’s left drawled lazily, arms folded across his chest, showing muscles straining against the thin material of his shirt. Ryeowook swallowed nervously.

“Kyuhyun here!” The one on the left, most probably the youngest one, spoke up cheerfully. Wait. Cheerfully? He seemed pretty laid back and happy, not like someone who was going to rip his insides out in the next few seconds. That made Ryeowook even more nervous.

“H-Hi?” He mewled, softly. Somehow, his voice disappeared under all that nervousness. Yesung’s books involuntarily fell from his hands. Why weren’t any of the students or teachers coming to stop them?!

“Hey, your books fell.” Kyuhyun bent down to pick them up. Ryeowook’s eyes widened in surprise at Kyuhyun’s act of kindness, then turned to pure shock and horror as he then proceeded to open them and shred the pages roughly with his hands.

“They’re Yesung-hyung’s boo-” He tried to say, before he felt Kangin’s hand grip the collar of his shirt, twisting his hands and tightening painfully. Ryeowook could feel the material rubbing mercilessly against his neck, causing excruciating friction. A piercing scream burst out of his mouth. He didn’t really hear himself screaming – his eyes glazed over as suddenly a pair of hands grabbed his wrists, and twisted them in one short, swift motion. He let out another yell, but he didn’t register it either, now he heard laughter coming from the three grown men, taking joy in bullying him. Violently and physically.

Then he felt all that pressure being released at once, and another voice – Yesung! Oh Yesung! Finally! – yelling at them to stop, and suddenly his mind became clear and fully conscious, registering everything that was going on around him. The screams, the yells, the kicking and punching… Ryeowook instinctively grabbed the nearest arm that came past him. They shouldn’t be fighting like that. They’d get into trouble. Only now he’d get into more trouble, because the arm that he’d grabbed had belonged to none other than Kibum. The man turned around roughly, hitting Ryeowook’s shoulder hard as he did, and Ryeowook’s body was flung to the side as he imagined hitting the hard marble floor below-

Then suddenly arms were around him, soft, slender but muscular arms wrapped around his waist, and pulled him up. They were Yesung’s. The first thing he saw of Yesung was his face. Sweating profusely, red and strained with the strength taken to push off the three of them, lips whispering something to him. Urgently.

Run, Ryeowook! Run!

Ryeowook tried to stand up, to follow what Yesung had told him to do. He stood up, but his knees buckled and he collapsed on the ground again, a groan escaping his throat. His hands broke his fall, but it did no good to Ryeowook as he put pressure on his wrists, where Kibum had twisted.

He pushed his knees forward, to try and balance himself and get up, but the pairing searing through his wrists was too much to bear – he went sprawling forwards as his face hit the floor again. He was so weak, he hated himself for it.

“Ryeowook!” He barely heard Yesung’s voice call out to him in worry as he tried to command as much energy as possible into his arms and legs to get up and run away. He pushed himself up with a loud groan, stumbling to his feet. He wanted to run, but also wanted to make sure Yesung was alright.

Yesung was pinned against the wall by Kangin with one hand, while his other hand was aiming slap after slap at his face, bright purple bruises blooming on the caramel-coloured skin. Blood trickled from his chin, and his eyes were fluttering closed. Ryewook was afraid. He wanted to help Yesung. But he was too frightened. He had to go. As he turned around, he felt something clench tightly at his heart as he heard Yesung let out a yell at the sudden knee in the crotch Kangin aimed at him.

“Where d’you think you’re going, princess?” It was Kyuhyun, an evil grin spread across his face. “We need to let you know one thing before you abandon your hyung here.” He grabbed Ryeowook’s locks, yanking them hard and eliciting a scream from Ryeowook. “The KKK are the ones that give orders here. Not the other way round.” He eaned his head closer to Ryeowook’s, and the latter felt hot breath on his ear. “And that means us.”

“AHH!!” Ryeowook lost his balance as Kyuhyun suddenly let go of his hair. He fell again, cursing under his breath. Kyuhyun stepped on his stomach, pressing down hard, before kicking a battered Ryeowook out of his path and walking away, leaving before Kibum and Kangin.

“You’ve never cared about a new student so much before, huh, Yesung?”Kangin sneered at him. Yesung flinched. He also didn’t know why he went and saved Ryeowook. He should’ve just slipped away when they were on Ryeowook, and not suffer any serious physical injuries.

“I just felt that you three have taken it too far.” Yesung reached out and pushed Kangin back, just when he was least expecting it. Kangin looked shocked, stumbling backward, before anger creeped back on his face, more furious than ever.

“What the HECK was that for?!” Kangin’s fury was directed at Yesung. Each puch, each kick and each curse word hurt so badly, but in Yesung’s mind he could only worry about Ryeowook, he had not run yet. And he had Kibum to worry about to, since Kyuhyun left. This made all his resolution come together, and suddenly Yesung couldn’t take it anymore. He focused all his energy into that one shove, and Kangin fell backwards, groaning. Yesung ran towards Ryeowook, propped him against the wall, and kicked Kibum once to immobilize him.

“Hyung… Where are you going?” Ryeowook whispered weakly.

“I’m getting sick of all these years of watching others suffer. Can you get up? And go home by yourself?” Ryeowook nodded weakly, slowly getting up, Yesung’s strong arms holding him. He gave Ryeowook a quick check for any serious injuries, but fortunately, there were none. Yesung patted Ryeowook on the shoulder before limping off.

Ryeowook called his mum, who looked very anxious seeing him like that. Somehow he managed to convince her that he fell down in the slippery toilet, and got the bruise on his face. He was relieved he was wearing long sleeves that day., so she couldn’t see the extent of the violence bestowed on him.

But only one thing was on his mind as he leaned back in the soft leather seat of the car: Yesung.
